How the class works
The course has two parts
Online course
On the Ellen Doula Care learning platform, learn the background knowledge about birth. The course takes about 3.5–4 hours. To get the most out of the class, the online course must be completed before the in-person class.
In-person class
5 hours of teaching and hands-on practice in a classroom, taught entirely in Chinese (Mandarin).
What you will learn
- Labor 101 takes you from contractions, signs of labor and cervical-check information through the different stages of birth: how to cope in early and active labor, plus common medical procedures and pain-relief options. Moms-to-be and partners learn to read the body’s changes, face labor with a clearer sense of direction, and take part more confidently in the discussions and decisions during birth.
- Pelvis 101 introduces the structure and sections of the pelvis, the baby’s head position, and how the baby turns and moves through the pelvis. Clear explanations of the principles behind the pelvic-engagement exercises help moms-to-be and partners understand the purpose of every movement and lay the groundwork for practice.
- Moms-to-be and birth partners learn and practice together, turning birth knowledge into action. Moms-to-be use step-by-step breakdowns and an 11-minute follow-along video to make the engagement exercises part of daily preparation; partners learn the three must-dos of labor support and practical massage techniques for pain relief, offering comfort and support during labor. Build teamwork from pregnancy and get ready together to welcome your baby.
Who it is for
- Birthing people at 34 weeks of pregnancy or later.
